Star Plaza is Keepin’ It Green!
Recent blog by Star Plaza on October 29, 2010Six months ago, our Star Plaza team embarked on a journey to implement a variety of “green” practices, as part of White Lodging Services Inc.’s “Keep It Green” program. The overlying goals were to encourage energy and water conservation, reduce waste, reduce air pollution and to protect the world’s natural resources. We are now proud to announce that we are a certified “Keep It Green” hotel!
As part of the advancement, we commenced and enforced (and continue to enforce) initiatives, such as the following:
- RECYCLING: cardboard, office papers, newspapers, glass, plastic, aluminum, ink cartridges, batteries and light bulbs
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY: using energy-efficient lighting and programmable thermostats
- WATER CONSERVATION: using automatic faucets and toilets in public restrooms and water-efficient washing machines
- CLEAN AIR PRACTICES: using environmentally preferred cleaners and high-efficiency air filters
Star Plaza and White Lodging Services, Inc. are proud to be furthering the green movement within the hospitality industry in Northwest Indiana. Both the hotel industry and travelers are becoming more environmentally conscious, and as a result are collectively increasing efforts to protect our natural resources.
As such, following are ways our guests help further the movement:
- Use our Towel Reuse program
- Use our Linen Reuse program
- Recycle cans and paper throughout the property
- Turn off all lights when leaving guestrooms
We are also proud of our efforts relating to our local community. White Lodging Services, Inc. has long been an advocate for environmental protection and strives to be a responsible environmental steward through superior energy management. This activism stems from our parent company’s pledge to ensure that our community benefits from Star Plaza’s presence – and that ultimately Merrillville is better because of our efforts.
